Knowledge You Need when You Buy Leather Furniture
For most of
furniture buyers, they will find terms like bonded leather, top grain
leather, full grain leather, sectional configuration, right face chaise, left
face chaise. It is very important for you to understand what they mean when you
make a decision to put your money. Here is the knowledge you need to buy a leather furniture.
Bonded Leather
Bonded Leather or reconstituted leather is term used for partially synthetic
leather. It is a synthetic material made of varying types of plastic (
generally polyurethane or vinyl) that may be spread over ground-up leather and
other substances, mechanically processed to give the appearance of leather, but
at reduced cost and with less wastage compared to natural leather.
The actual leather content of bonded leather varies depending on the
manufacturer and the quality level they are selling.
The type of bonded leather being used on upholstered furniture today is a
plastic matyerial ( generally polyuredthane or vinyl). backed with fabric with
a layer of latex or other material mexed with a small percentage of leather
fibersz in the product's backing material. The plastic surfact is stamped to
give it a leather-like texture. The surface the consumer sees and feels
contains no leather. A more fragile paper-backed bonded leather is used to
cover books and desk accessories. These bonded leathers may contain a smaller
proportion of leather than used in the furniture industry and have some leather
content in the product's surface, hance ther may be an actual leather smell.
In 2011the European Committee For STandardization published EN 15987-2011
" Leather-Teminology - Key definitions for the leather trade'to stop
further confusion about bonded leather. The minimum amount of 50% in weight of
dry leather is needed to use the term' bonded leather'. The federal Trade
Commission, Washington, USA recommends according to 16 C.F.R Section
24:"for esample: An industry product made of a composition material
consisting of 60% shredded leather fibers may be described as : Bonded Leather
Containing 60% Leather Fibers and 40% Non-leather Substances."
Leather
leather is a durable and flexible material created by the tanning of animal rawhide and skin, often cattle hide. It can be produced through manufacturing processes ranging from cottagle industry to heavy industry.
Leather is sold in four forms:
Full-grain leather refers to hides thgat have not been sanded, buffed, or snuffed to remove imperfections on the surface of hide. The grain remains allowing the fiber strength and durability. The gran also has breathability, resulting in less moisture from prolonged contact.
Top-grain leather is second-highest quality, it has had the "split" layer separated away, making it thinner and more pliable than full-grain. Its surface has been sanded and a finish coat added to the surface which results in colder, plastic feel with less breathability.
Corrected-grain leather is any leather that has had an artificial grain applied to its surface. The hides used to created corrected leather do not meet the standards for use in creating begetable-tanned or aniline Leather.
Split leather is leather created from the fibrous part of the hide left once the top-grain of the rawhide has been separated from the hide. During the splitting operation, the top-grain and drop split are separated. the drop split can be further split into a middle split and a flesh split. In very think hides. the middle split can be separated into multple layers until the thickness prevents further splitting.Split leather then has an artificial layer applied to the surface of the split and it embossed with a leather grain by case leather.
Pricing Difference: For same products with different material, the prices could be dramatically different. for example, a sectional sofa, the price for using grain leather could be 500-700 higher than for using bonded leather, and the price for using full top gran leather could be 1300-1500 higher than bonded leather.
Sectional Sofa Configuration: right Face chaise, Left Face Chaise
The sectional sofa, there also have option for configuration. Right Side Facing Chaise(RSF-when you facing the sofa, chaise on right) or Left side facing chaise (LSF-when you facing the sofa, chaise on left)or other. When you set a order, please set your option.
