Steps to Remove the Soot:

Formula 409 makes a glass and surface cleaner and is so effective for removing soot, it can even be used to remove soot stains from clothing.

1. Spray the mirror with the Formula 409 and wipe away the greasy grunge.

2. 2. Combine vinegar and water in equal parts and wipe the glass clean with the solution on a cloth or sponge.2

3. 3. Ammonia can also be effective at cutting through the oils in soot. Add a tablespoon of ammonia for each quart of warm water and wipe away the stains with the solution on a cloth or sponge.2

4. 4. Some dish liquids, such as Dawn, contain ammonia. Place a couple drops of dish liquid on a damp sponge and wipe the soot off the mirror with the sponge.

§            Take the mirror outside or ventilate the room well when using ammonia and wear gloves.
